ARK: GENESIS ASCENDED

What the new DLCs bring — Genesis Part 1, Tides of Fortune and Dragontopia

Genesis 1 in a new shape

Genesis Part 1 is not returning to ARK: Survival Ascended as a plain remaster, but as a substantially reworked map focused on an ocean world and new systemic features. Official roadmaps and summaries state that the map is getting an ocean biome spanning the whole map — a continuous water world with more realistic water physics, waves and buoyancy, built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. Alongside it, the familiar simulated worlds remain: the bog, the arctic, the volcano and the lunar landscape.

The content also gains a new creature, the Palaeoctopus — a giant octopus from the late Cretaceous, picked by the community in a vote. It has shifting camouflage, can climb steep cliffs and drags careless survivors into a crushing grip of tentacles. Genesis 1 is at the same time part of a broader plan to expand ASA and prepare for further story maps and technical changes in the game.

What Tides of Fortune brings

Tides of Fortune is an add-on that gives Genesis 1 a pirate and naval layer. Players can look forward to vast ocean stretches with randomly generated islands and fortresses, building their own vessels — with cannons and custom modules — and proper naval battles.

The DLC builds on the atmosphere of a pirate sandbox: ships, islands, fortresses, treasure. The goal is for ARK to feel more like an adventure at sea than a traditional survival game on land — including hauling your tamed dinos across the ocean aboard your own ship.

Dragontopia

According to the roadmap, Dragontopia is a separate new DLC map planned as a fantasy world with dragons and a strong focus on the bond between player and creature. The descriptions available say the dragons are not meant to be ordinary "rideable mounts", but rather companions with a friendship system — the deeper the bond, the more the dragon can do.

High fantasy and an exotic style are mentioned as the visual inspiration, so Dragontopia will be thematically unlike the classic ARK maps. The exact gameplay mechanics are not confirmed yet, but deeper interaction with dragons and a new fantasy setting are meant to be at its core.

What it all adds to the game

These DLCs do not just bring new maps, but a wider shift in the direction ARK: Survival Ascended is heading. Genesis 1 and Tides of Fortune extend the game with ocean gameplay, ships, naval combat and a new creature. Dragontopia adds a fantasy identity, dragons and an entirely different kind of relationship with the creature system.

Combined with a roadmap that also counts on the World Creator tool (building your own content inside the game) and further maps, this is a clear push to turn ASA into a platform with a far wider range of experiences than the original ARK had. For players it means more specialised playstyles: naval survival, fantasy exploration and classic ARK progression on new maps.

This information comes from the official roadmaps and announcements by Studio Wildcard — details may still change before the individual DLCs are released.
